The History of the Hijri Calendar in Islam تاريخ التقويم الهجري

The History of the Hijri Calendar in Islam The Hijri calendar , also known as the Islamic calendar , is a lunar calendar used predominantly for religious purposes by Muslims across the world. Its establishment dates back to the time of Caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA) , during which a formal, standardized method of calculating years became necessary due to the expanding Islamic state. The Hijri calendar does not merely serve chronological purposes, but it also preserves and commemorates one of the most pivotal events in Islamic history the Hijrah (migration) of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ from Makkah to Madinah .

THE ISLAMIC PERSPECTIVE ON ASTRONOMY

THE ISLAMIC PERSPECTIVE ON ASTRONOMY  ABSTRACT This study explores the Islamic perspective on astronomy, focusing on how Islamic teachings, classical scholarship, and the Qur’an engage with celestial knowledge. The study analyzes how early Muslim scholars such as Al-Battani, Al-Farghani, and Al-Biruni contributed significantly to the development of astronomy during the Islamic Golden Age, aligning scientific discoveries with Islamic cosmology. The Importance of Sincerity (الإخلاص) in Worship According to the Qur’an and Sunnah

The Importance of Sincerity (الإخلاص) in Worship According to the Qur’an and Sunnah ✅ مقدمة: الإخلاص (Ikhlāṣ) هو روح العبادة وأساس القبول عند الله عز وجل. بدون الإخلاص، تُصبح الأعمال جوفاء لا قيمة لها في ميزان الآخرة. قال الله تعالى: وَمَا أُمِرُوا إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ الدِّينَ﴾ (البينة: 5) ﴿ “And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion...” (Al-Bayyina, 98:5). This verse encapsulates the centrality of sincerity in Islamic worship. It highlights that the core objective of divine instruction is the purification of intention, where all acts of devotion are directed to Allah alone, without seeking praise, status, or worldly gain.

Studying Hadith is not just a scholarly pursuit; it is a spiritual journey that strengthens a believer’s connection to the Prophet ﷺ and deepens one’s understanding of Islam. 1. Understanding the Qur’an More Clearly The Hadith serves as a key to interpreting the Qur’an. Many verses require prophetic explanation or context. For example: وَأَقِيمُوا الصَّلَاةَ “Establish the prayer…” (Qur’an, 2:43) But the Qur’an does not detail how to perform Salah. It is the Hadith that shows us how the Prophet ﷺ prayed: صَلُّوا كَمَا رَأَيْتُمُونِي أُصَلِّي “Pray as you have seen me praying.” (Bukhari, 7246) 2. Drawing Closer to the Prophet ﷺ Studying Hadith makes us feel close to the Prophet ﷺ and connects us to his personal life, hab...
